Car insurance for 1 day
Nowadays its fairly easy to get cover between 1-28 days for almost any purpose. However for cars in insurance groups 18-20, drivers must be aged 25 or over with most companies, in addition excess for young drivers up to 24 can be up to £750 for a high performance model and probably averages around £500. Although excess is often high the premiums themselves are fairly cheap, allowing you to get comprehensive 1 day car insurance for
a family member or close friend to drive your vehicle, a temporary additional vehicle, a newly purchased vehicle from an auction or car supermarket, a courtesy car, an unaccompanied test-drive of a car(some garages will insist on you taking insurance for an extended test drive particularly on prestige models) or even for track day driving or other racing events.

One day car insurance
In certain circumstances it can work out cheaper to arrange one day car insurance rather than a more conventional annual insurance plan. Obviously there is no point paying an annual premium for a vehicle you only plan to drive once or use every now and then. Single day insurance was originally limited to the motor trade only, but this type of temporary cover was actually introduced to the general public way back in 2005, though is still relatively unknown.

Single day car insurance
Has been designed to meet the needs of people who require immediate, short-term insurance to drive in the UK and to cover them for a period of between 1 to 28 days against accident, fire or theft damage to their vehicle, as well as their legal obligations or third party claims. However, as with all insurance policies, it is important to read the small print. many companies will have exclusions to the temporary cover, typical exclusions include:-

  • Vehicles must be registered in Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man and not have been imported
  • have a current market value of less than £25,000-£40,000 (depending on policy - most limit to £25k)
  • Must not be used for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward (including Taxicabs, Private Hire and Public Hire)
  • does not cover hired vehicles

Track day car insurance
One of the fastest growing hobbies in the UK is track day racing. Motoring enthusiasts love to to take their pride and joy down to a local race track and drive at speed without fear of prosecution and impress their fellow drivers. Track days are becoming an established part of the motorsport community.
Many companies hoever, will simply point-blank refuse to offer insurance to car owners that take part in track days or similar events(this is a specific exclusion on almost every car insurance policy). Some drivers are sometimes tempted to take a risk by not telling their insurer that they do this, but by withholding this important information, they are actually invalidating their insurance policy and will not be able to make a claim. Luckily today there are a wide range of policies designed for trackday enthusiasts.

Days car insurance
In summary then, getting car insurance for 1 day is not too difficult anymore, whether you are a trackday racing enthusiast or simply need to drive a vehicle on a one off or occasional basis, cheap policies and plans are availiable online - many giving instant cover - to suit your needs.
