The average car insurance rate is affected by the state you live in as well as age and gender of applicant. The most recent statistics for the national average cost of an insurance premium is about $1800 a year. Drivers under the age of 25 and teen drivers for the most part pay the highest insurance premiums. These two categories are set apart from other criteria because statistically these are the age groups who carry the higher risks due to a higher rate of accidents and their inexperience behind the wheel. In the under 25 age group typically the male has the highest premium. Statistics show that females are not as aggressive behind the wheel so their average car insurance premiums are generally lower than those of their male counterparts. However, in this same age category if a driver is married their average insurance premium rate will likely be lower whether male or female.

Your location in the United States can and will most likely affect your average car insurance premium. Comparison charts are available for each state for consumers to review from each states Insurance Regulator. Contact your state’s Department of Insurance to get a copy of the statistics for the average cost of car insurance for the specific age group or gender you are researching. The information provided by these departments can show comparisons on the current month’s average premiums for each state and the national average cost of auto insurance.

States determine their rates based on state laws, and the rates vary by the number of people who live in the state, small towns, and cities. People who live in smaller towns and exposed to less traffic will on pay on the average lower car insurance premiums that those from the same age group who live in bigger towns or cities with more traffic. Everyone has to have insurance each state requires all licensed drivers to maintain automobile insurance whether they own a vehicle or not. Average car insurance costs are based on a driver’s age, gender, whether they live in a largely populated area or small town as well as the state they are located in. As much as we hate we if we want the privilege to drive we also have to take responsibility for that privilege and maintain the required average car insurance needed to indemnify and protect us for the unexpected accident that can happen at any time whether minor or serious.
