Aston Martin DBS

The UK has a reputation in the automotive world when it comes to high quality sports cars; while Italy can boast the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini and Germany the hallowed Porsche, none come close to having the draw of that most evocative of British motors – the Aston Martin.

For a start, just say the name: it rolls of the tongue and immediately conjures up images of British Racing Green, leather and tweed, quality cigars and vintage wine. For an Aston Martin is all of those things, and is very British indeed.

None more so than the DBS, a name that has been around for nigh on half a century and one ably represented by the quite stunning machine that carries the name today.

Just take a look at this car – this sculpture on wheels – and tell me, is there a more beautiful motor car available in the world today? It’s a difficult act to follow: from the aggressive and purposeful front end that features the trademark Aston Martin grille, through to the sleek haunches that give the car its fast-at-standstill look the DBS is a very beautiful design indeed, but like with all Aston Martins it is not only looks that count.

Fire up the astonishing six litre V12 engine and over 500 horse power is underfoot; blip the throttle and a glorious bellow echoes around – it’s worth it for the sound alone. But on the move things move to a different level.

Aston Martins are renowned for their excellent road manners and the DBS is no different; the chassis is amazing – direct and responsive – for here is a car that can take on the best anyone can offer.
If you like figures get this: 190mph, sixty miles per hour in less than four and a half seconds, what is not to like?

Inside the DBS it is all British style and luxury; the best leather, a fantastic sound system, and comfort to match anything. Can there be another 190mph car that is so beautiful to be in?
Craftsmanship is something very much in evidence in a DBS; everything has a purpose, from the instrument panel right through to the lightweight body, and everything is designed with excellence in mind.

But that is Aston Martin for you, and nothing less should be expected. The DBS may just be the very best gentleman’s tourer on the market today or, on the other hand, it may be the finest luxury supercar that money can buy. Whichever way one chooses to look at it, the Aston Martin DBS is nothing short of a very beautiful, very capable and astonishingly fast car.
