Nowadays its fairly easy to get cover between 1-28 days for almost any purpose. However for cars in insurance groups 18-20, drivers must be aged 25 or over with most companies, in addition excess for young drivers up to 24 can be up to £750 for a high performance model and probably averages around £500. Although excess is often high the premiums themselves are fairly cheap, allowing you to get comprehensive 1 day car insurance for
a family member or close friend to drive your vehicle, a temporary additional vehicle, a newly purchased vehicle from an auction or car supermarket, a courtesy car, an unaccompanied test-drive of a car(some garages will insist on you taking insurance for an extended test drive particularly on prestige models) or even for track day driving or other racing events.

Why do I need breakdown cover for my car
Ever noticed those poor souls on the hard shoulder of the motorway, usually with a car full of kids on the way somewhere fun when disaster strikes and they are left stranded, frantically calling anyone and everyone they know to come and help them, but ultimately having to use the services of a local vehicle recovery service - frequently at the insistance of Police if causing hazard to other traffic - and being forced to pay the astronomical fees imposed!
